Each day, upwards of 2,000 people in the United States join an MLM business opportunity. These are also known as multi-level marketing, network marketing, direct selling, referral marketing and pyramid selling business opportunities. Not every MLM opportunity is the same. There are a lot of scams out there to maneuver through. In fact, some MLM opportunities operate illegally. If an MLM pays people primarily from the start-up fees that new sales recruits, also known as sales associates or independent distributors, have to pay, then it is likely a pyramid scheme, and likely illegal. It's important to weed these scams out when you are considering joining an MLM opportunity. During the early days of consideration, it's important to get the MLM support necessary that will help you to succeed.

Once you have decided on a couple opportunities, talk to people involved in each one to have them tell you their experiences and whether they receive adequate MLM support. Some MLM opportunities offer more MLM support than others. Some cut their sales associates loose to fend for themselves, which can give a sense of desolation and cause a person to lose their enthusiasm pretty quickly. While others make people feel part of a team and have a genuine “all in this together” culture of success.

Although it's helpful and sometimes necessary to get close MLM support to succeed, it's equally important to establish a sense of independence. This might go against some of the principles of MLMs. Although everyone benefits when everyone is being successful, when it comes down to it, only you are responsible for your performance. The buck stops with you. There's no one else, ultimately, who can take the blame if you fail to make sales numbers that meet your expectations.

You should be concentrating as much on recruiting new sales associates as you do on selling the product. That will offer you the support you will need from the ground up to be successful. If you establish a good team of people who support each other but also succeed independently, you won't be able to fail. One of the best tips regarding support is to always leave the paths of communication open. Without that, it's extremely difficult to give and received the type of support that makes MLM successes possible. Everyone can learn something from everyone else. No one has exactly the same sales style. By sharing ideas and tips, everyone will get that much better at closing deals.
